1940 North Lincoln has two different studio floor plans.
Floor plans are available online. As of mid-January 2014 available rehabbed studios rented from $1,005.
Rehabbed apartments in the building have wood-look floors and new kitchens and baths. Kitchen cabinet and counter finishes vary.
The apartments have reasonably good closet space.
Views. Higher-floor south-facing apartments have views of the Chicago skyline and the Old Town Triangle neighborhood.
Most of the Old Town Triangle is landmarked, ensuring that north, south and west views will remain unobstructed.
Amenities, services, policies
1940 North Lincoln, typical of vintage buildings in the neighborhood, has limited amenities.
There’s a rooftop sundeck and a laundry room. A hair salon and shoe repair shop are on the ground floor of the building.
1940 North Lincoln does not have on-site parking, and parking is scarce and expensive in the immediate area.
Maintenance staff is on-site. 1940 North Lincoln is a cats-only building.
1940 North Lincoln is a block from the 1,200-acre Lincoln Park, one of the greatest public spaces in America. The immediate area is home to an impressive array of bars and restaurants.
It’s almost impossible to overestimate the attractiveness of living around the corner from Lincoln Park.
The building’s location affords it quick access to many of the most popular attractions in the park, including the delightful free Zoo.
Shopping. 1940 North Lincoln has decent proximity to grocery shopping.
The nearest full-service grocery store, about an 8-minute walk south of the building, is Treasure Island, which bills itself as “America’s most European supermarket.”
From early May to late October, more than 50 farmers draw Wednesday and Saturday morning crowds to the Green City Market in the park, a block from 1940 North Lincoln.
A CVS pharmacy is on the north end of the block at Armitage Ave.
There’s a smattering of boutiques and other retailing along Wells St, but retail access isn’t one of the property’s strong suits. Oak Street‘s glamorous boutiques and Michigan Ave’s Magnificent Mile shops are over a mile south of the property. The big-box stores of the Clybourn Corridor are a mile-and-a-half southwest.
Dining, nightlife, entertainment.
You’re not going to find the city’s hottest restaurants and bars near 1940 North Lincoln, but you will find far more than enough long-time favorites to keep dining and drinking close to home.
The immediate neighborhood hosts a number of street fairs and festivals in the summer, including the spectacular Old Town Art Fair, now in its 65th year.
Lincoln Park has too many attractions to list.
The park has virtually every recreational opportunity you can imagine, from North Avenue Beach to a tranquil nature boardwalk, all easily accessible to 1940 North Lincoln residents. Castaways Bar & Grill at North Avenue Beach is eight-tenths of a mile and a 16-minute walk from 1939 North Lincoln.
Oz Park, which has tennis courts, a basketball court, ball fields and a gym, is two blocks northwest of the building.
A 3-level Equinox fitness facility is a short walk from 1940 North Lincoln.
Transportation. 1940 North Lincoln’s access to public transportation is good, but not great.
Several CTA bus routes stop around the corner on Clark St and several more are a short distance away in the park.
The nearest CTA train stop is the Brown and Purple Line station at Sedgwick, an 11-minute walk from 1940 North Lincoln.
Taxi service is nearly always instantaneously available. A Zipcar car-sharing location is nearby.
Access to I-90/94 and the city’s expressway grid is inconvenient, and can be very time-consuming during peak hours.
Rentals are typically available in a number of smaller nearby buildings just off the park and in condo buildings in the area.
