The high life: Ten East Delaware's layout is designed for luxury living

Click for larger imageWhat’s the difference between the design of the units in an ultra-luxury development and those of condos designed for the masses? It’s little things like the pocket doors that are hidden in the walls so servants can discretely move between the kitchen and the dining room. Then there is the floor plan (we’re trying to get a copy), which is designed for formal entertaining.

Guests exit the private elevator onto a foyer, which leads to a great room, which maximises natural light and sweeping skyline views. The dining room is located on one side of the great room, then after dinner, guests move smoothly from the dining room through the great room to the library for cigars and port.

Then it’s back to the great room and out onto the terrace to take in those views once more.Gauche things like bathrooms and kitchens are tucked away from view so that the help can get on with cooking and cleaning. Master bedrooms are located on the opposite side of the unit from the other bedrooms to ensure privacy. At least that’s the deal at Ten East Delaware, the Gold Coast high-rise designed by Lucien Lagrange Architects.

Yo’s truly spent yesterday afternoon chatting to the project’s senior designer, My-Nga Lam. She says amenities like swimming pools and fitness centers are mandatory in high-rises these days, and to compete in the ultra-luxury market you’ve got to provide other services, like house-cleaning and room service. Yo will give you more glimpses into the ultra-luxury market over the next couple of weeks.
