352 North Union is a 38-story, 373-unit apartment tower proposed for the site just south of K2 apartments in Chicago’s Fulton River District.
The development team will include Cardiff Mason Development as developer and Pappageorge Haymes as the architecture firm.
The apartments
352 North Union will have a mix of studio, one-, two- and three-bedroom apartments. Detail of the unit finishes have not been released yet.
Expect the building to have a high level of finishes to compete with the K Station buildings nearby.
Views. 352 North Union’s siting on a north-west axis and the openness of its immediate surroundings provide outstanding skyline views to the south, east and west.
Amenities, services, policies
Details of 352 North Union’s amenities have not yet been released. The renderings show an amenities deck with a pool and outdoor seating.
The building will include parking and outdoor green space with room for a dog run.
Location
352 North Union’s west-of-the-river location is easily misunderstood: it’s far more convenient and lively than is apparent from a superficial look.
352 North Union will have three entrance points from the street with the main entrance on Union Ave. Additional entrances will be on Green St and Halsted St. The three entrance points afford residents quick access to River North, River West and the West Loop.
Shopping
352 North Union is directly adjacent to a new, heavily-reviewed Jewel-Osco in a strip center that also has a Radio Shack, a Pet Stuff, a Chase bank branch, a Hair Cuttery, a cleaners and a nail salon.
Other major grocers near 352 North Union include Mariano’s. Whole Foods is a few blocks south of the building.
There’s a dearth of retail shopping in the Fulton River District and West Loop, but 352 North Union has good access via Halsted St to the retail clusters in the Clybourn Corridor and along Roosevelt Avenue.
Dining, nightlife
The thriving restaurant and nightlife scenes in Greektown, River North and the West Loop are all within a few minutes’ walk of 352 North Union. Bucktown and Wicker Park are minutes away by cab, bike or Blue Line trains.
Some of the more popular dining and nightlife venues in the immediate area include Carnivale, Jefferson Tap & Grille, Piccolo Sogno Italian restaurant, the Paramount Room and Iguana Café.
Parks, recreation
Fulton River Park, which has a dog run, a playground and a shaded area, is a block east of 352 North Union and a neighborhood gathering spot. Movies in the Parks draw a crowd on summer nights.
Transportation. 352 North Union has good access to public transportation. It’s just two short blocks from the CTA’s Grand Ave Blue Line station, which is also served by four CTA bus lines. The Blue Line provides direct access to O’Hare Airport and west-suburban Oak Park and Forest Park.
The Pink and Green Line stops at Clinton St and Morgan St are each about a 10-minute walk. 352 North Union is a 10-12 minute walk from Metra’s Ogilvie Transportation Center and the adjoining Chicago French Market.
A number of CTA bus routes serve the area.
Zipcar rentals are available on-site and at the nearby Jewel.
352 North Union overlooks I-90/94, but access is several minutes away via the Ontario / Ohio on / off ramps or Randolph St.
The competition
You might consider condos for rent in Fulton River District and West Loop buildings – they’re occasionally available at lower rents than you’ll find in the rental buildings, in part because they don’t offer comparable amenities packages.
