We passed by 4420 N Clark just after dark last night and noticed a few lights on. Several of the new condo building’s 32 units appeared to be occupied, and a sign draped across the entrance said deliveries are available immediately. Rubloff, which is marketing the development, lists prices on its Web site from $252,500 to $399,500. The site also shows nine units still available in a variety of two-bedroom floor plans.
The condos are bringing some new vitality to Clark Street just north of Montrose Avenue, which looks pretty dark and empty aside from Anna Maria Pasteria, the Italian restaurant at 4400 N Clark. But there’s more life to the strip than meets the eye. Right across the street from the condo development is the Japanese American Service Committee of Chicago, a low-slung brick rectangle of a building that sponsors community and cultural events, including, through June 8, Origins of Now, an exhibit celebrating Japanese resettlement in Chicago.
As we strolled past last night, a dozen or so people came out of the building and milled around on the sidewalk, exclaiming over the wonderful warm weather.

Let’s see what kind of “life” this building adds to Clark St. after the main-floor retail spaces are occupied. Hopefully there will be something besides a bank branch and medical office! Maybe a beauty salon, boutique, small restaurant or convenience store, etc., to attract foot traffic?
anon,
Want foot traffic? Why not a pedicure salon?
Sorry, I couldn’t resist.
Well, pedicures are becoming pretty common in beauty salons nowadays so if they put a salon on the main floor it will probably include this.
Big fan of staring off my balcony into a self-storage facility during things like 4th of July parties. Big fan of it.
Can’t get any clients to look at these. Also, you forgot “Carol’s” is just down the block…like Country Western and and real drinkin? The greatest late night in the city Friday and Saturdays.
