The development includes ground-level retail space along Chicago Ave.

The project’s developer is Smithfield Development. Berkelhamer Architects is the design architect and Antunovich Associates is the architect of record.

Demolition of an existing building on part of the site began in October 2013 and foundation work commenced in December of 2013.

The apartments

Eight O Five has a mix of studio, convertible, 1- and 2-bedroom, 2-bath floor plans. There are also townhouse units with private terraces above the parking garage on LaSalle. The building has 8 studios, 198 one-bedrooms, 3 two-bedrooms and 8 penthouse apartments.

The apartments have wood-look floors, 9-foot ceilings, floor-to-ceiling windows and in-unit washer / dryers. Most have large private balconies or terraces.

Views. The building’s upper floors have panoramic views to the south, east and west. The view to the north is limited by an adjacent high-rise of nearly equal height

High-floor southeast corner units have the best views. These views were shot from the sundeck at 121 W Chestnut, immediately north of Eight O Five.

What a shame – another towering monstrosity ruining our beautiful city – and for what? Destroying current views in current buildings, blocking sunlight from the once bright streets and lining the pockets of yet another developer who cares nothing about Chicago to building a classing residential building that will enhance and truly benefit the city. The developers only quest is to benefit himself/herself!

Went by today. Does this project have General Contractor,no signage or permits visible on perimeter of job site.

I’m surprised there are no plans for 2 bedroom units and larger. Looks like a good building good for the area, as not much is going on on that block currently. It has a nice modern look and another TOD which will be good for the location. Can’t really get much better location than where this building will be, glad to see its a nice tall building without the focus on parking and driving.

I agree with Hello. I am in the market for a 2 bedroom place right by the office. This would have been perfect if they had 2 or 3 bed units. Still very interesting.

  • Hello, Ted,

There will be larger units. The review says “mostly” smaller units, not exclusively.

Do you have to be condescending to everyone? He was just asking a question, same with the guy before. You might live a happier life if you weren’t such a jerk to everyone.

      • Mark,

I live a very happy life, in part because I don’t misread gentle reminders that readers missed a point in the post as “condescending.”

I’m fine with the building, I’m just pissed I have to walk past the terribly ugly logo/advertising for this thing every day. Sample the “LOCATION” logo on their website – best part is the misspelling of tatoo (sic)

    • Sorry to have to tell you that tatoo is a recognized alternate spelling.

Awesome location and the building looks like a winner. What will the rents look like, not another out pricing I
    hope, Thanks

When will this building be completed?

  • tstyle, Joan,

We don’t continually update our reviews, but we do provide links to building websites, which is where you should head for answers to your questions.
