This would be quite nice to come home to, wouldn’t it? It’s one of two matching entryway monuments at the Lakeshore East development of high-rises on the New East Side. Apparently, these little sails, which were unveiled a couple of months ago, were illuminated in green on St. Patrick’s Day, and will turn red and green on Christmas Day, red on Valentine’s Day etc. etc. A doorman in one of the buildings at Lakeshore East controls the lights from a laptop. One particularly nifty feature is that when any resident of the various high-rises in the development wants a cab, he or she lets the doorman know, and he flashes a signal on the sail that passing cab drivers know to look for. Quite civilized.
