Homebuyers at The Residences at 900 can shop 'til they drop

yo 900 n michigan.jpgHow would you like Bloomingdale’s, Gucci, Coach, Montblanc, the Four Seasons and Equinox Fitness for neighbors? Nine hundred North Michigan Avenue, the home to some of Chicago’s best shopping and one of the most recognizable buildings on the skyline, is converting eight levels of vacant office space into The Residences at 900.
When the building’s largest tenant, WPP Group jumped ship, affiliates of JMB Realty hired Booth Hansen Associates to design the conversion of floors 21 through 28 into 48 luxury condos. The one- to three-bedroom units range from more than 1,600 square feet to just under 4,800 square feet. The units will have 10-foot ceilings, four-inch oak flooring, stone and marble master baths, and either traditional or contemporary kitchens with Snaidero cabinetry and appliances by Sub-Zero and Wolf. Residents also can take advantage of available Smart Home systems from Integrisys and a rooftop garden that is 100 feet above street level.

It’s not the first major office building to convert vacant space into condos. Crain’s Chicago Business previously reported a conversion in the works at 55 E Monroe St, whose largest tenant, law firm Seyfarth Shaw LLP, is departing.

If the trend continues, maybe you’ll be able to own a nice pied-a-terre in the Sears Tower.

The Residences at 900 are priced from $1.2M to $4.6M, and developers anticipate delivery in the fall of 2007.
