A drive through Westhaven Park

by Jeremy Schnitker on 6/20/09

The second mix-income development Joe and I drove through was Westhaven Park, a series of condos and townhomes in the Near West side around Lake and Wood streets. Of all that we visited, this place was definitely the most tranquil. Aside from the nearby CTA tracks at Lake Street, this place totally quiet (all the vacant parking lots from the nearby United Center act as a buffer from all the noise to the south, east and west). The yards were all green and well-kept and the homes were as well.

Though not technically in the West Loop, these homes are close enough to walk to most of the West Loop nightlife and entertainment – though some may not want to late at night – and you’re just a quick drive from Wicker Park and Bucktown. The Ashland Green Line stop is also only a few blocks away.

Like all that we visited, though, you’ll see there’s lots of work left to do at this place.

This definitely looks like it’s a bit better off than the previous one that you showed.

Lets just hope that this doesn’t end up becoming the setting of the next generation’s version of “Good Times”.

And lets also hope that this be the LAST and FINAL time the city tears down housing and rebuilds it–sheesh.
