A glimpse of new homes from Navy Pier

by Joseph Askins on 9/16/09

Surely you’ve heard some of the hoopla over Navy Pier’s new AeroBalloon by now. My advice to anyone who wants to take a ride: Call ahead, because the slightest breeze will ground the balloon for the day. I learned this the hard way on Tuesday, when I arrived at Navy Pier at 8:30 a.m. with my camera in tow, only to be told to try again on Thursday.

I couldn’t leave Navy Pier empty-handed, so I hit “record” and quickly scanned the cityscape for new towers. There’s nothing here that a regular Yo reader hasn’t seen before — Aqua, Trump, ParkView, and 600 North Lake Shore Drive. But the importance is this — if I can see these towers clearly from outside the pier, residents on the eastern sides of these towers can see the lake just as clearly.
