A Lake Geneva alternative in Libertyville

Mark Stone was 17 years old when his dad bought two abandoned gravel quarries in Libertyville. At the time, he didn’t share his dad’s vision of the pristine environment he came to love on what became Lake Minear.

After living in a much larger home in Riverwoods for 13 years Mark commissioned North Shore architect Irving Moses to design a smaller (5,194 square foot!) home on a verdant lot his family had retained at the northern edge of Lake Minear, a 77-acre private lake in Libertyville. He’s lived in this utterly unique home and environment for 20 years and, due to his wife’s health, is moving on.

The home is close to Libertyville‘s vibrant downtown, and at the edge of the 101-acre Adler Park, which has three swimming pools, water slides, a 9-hole golf course, a wide array of recreational amenities and great natural beauty.

Seeing this home made me wonder whether some will see it as a viable, close-in alternative to Lake Geneva and other lake-country destinations.

Mark talks about his home and its setting in the above video, and in the following video Meladee Hughes shows me around the interior.

The home, at 419 E Winchester Rd, is listed for sale at $1,250,000 with Coldwell Banker’s Meladee Hughes, who sponsored these videos.
