A neighborhood bar in the Loop

One good reason to take the Loop seriously as a neighborhood: You can drink, Prohibition-style, at Cardozo’s Pub, a little-known bar in the basement of a building on Washington Street.
Behind the bar is a cool little 40-foot underground tunnel that ends under the sidewalk on Washington Street. We’re told it’s where all the gambling took place, back in the day.
The bar, which also has a restaurant, is on Washington between Wells and LaSalle. It ‘s so clandestine that it would make the perfect neighborhood bar for Loop locals.
Now find it for yourself. Hint: small neon sign. And don’t cheat and use Google. The Web sites that pass themselves off as authorities on the local bar scene barely give it the time of day. Their loss.
