A rare rental at 999 N Lake Shore Drive

Built in 1912, 999 N Lake Shore Drive, became the anchor for what would become one of Chicago’s most sought-after addresses – East Lake Shore Drive.

A rare rental just came on the market in this Benjamin Marshall-designed classic. The 3-bedroom, 3 ½ bath home is listed at $9,500 a month with Coldwell Banker’s Katherine Chez.

The 12-unit building has 24 hour door staff and a rooftop deck, but no parking.

In the video above, Prudential Rubloff’s Francesca Rose jests that barbed wire on the rooftop deck was designed to “separate the haves from the have mores.” Board approval of a new renter, which may take up to 60 days, according to the listing, ensuring exclusion of the have-not-enoughs.

Added: A tipster with MLS access informs me that this unit has been listed for rent for over 800 days at the same asking price.
