A roundup of Yo’s recent rooftop rambles

We love rooftops, and head for one every chance we get. Here’s a brief look at some of what we’ve seen within the past few weeks, starting with the view north and east from Hubbard Place, above. You can click any image to view a much larger version.

We rode the construction elevator to the roof of the new Wolf Point West apartments for a cloudy-day vista along the main and south branches of the Chicago River. We also had a peek inside the mechanical room. Occupancy at Wolf Point West is slated to begin in January.

The construction elevator took us to the 29th floor roof of 1000 South Clark for dazzling panoramic views to the north and east. Occupancy is targeted for February, 2016.

Yet another construction elevator lifted us to the topping off party for the new MILA apartment tower at 200 N Michigan. Developer John Buck had some brief remarks, and a toast to the more than 1,000 people who worked on the project. MILA will welcome its first residents next spring.

We climbed a ladder at the Van der Rohe apartments, 2933 N Sheridan, for a look down on the building’s 12,000 square foot sundeck. The north side views included the site of a new apartment high-rise at 2950 N Sheridan and a clear view of Milton Schwartz’s 1950s modernist creation at 320 West Oakdale.

We rode a conventional elevator to the rooftop pool deck at State & Chestnut, a new apartment tower on the border of the Gold Coast and River North.

Yo attended the recent grand-opening party at the new Gateway West Loop apartments and stopped by a few days later for a people-free view of the pool deck.

We revisited the sundeck at Optima Center a few days after an earlier visit to capture this view in the mid-day sun.

We stopped in at Chestnut Tower to check out its newly-redone sundeck and the view to the east.

The rooftop sundeck at North Water apartments has three exposures, but the lake view is hard to resist.

Group Fox has transformed the rooftops of vintage buildings at 401 W Fullerton and 215 E Chestnut into lush oases.

We headed for the roof of the garage at New City for a look down on the pool deck, and moved on to a top-floor apartment for a skyline view.

If you’re hunting for a new apartment, YoChicago will show you Chicago like no other site will.
