A South Loop loft that’s truly a loft

Loft is one of the most overused words in the real estate lexicon. Lofts are dramatic, fun spaces bristling with character and rich in visual appeal – but you’ll often see the word associated with low-ceilinged cramped spaces completely lacking in character.

Realtors go through contortions when they need a few words to describe a true loft. In the case of the soaring 3,000 square foot third floor space at 1617 S Michigan, for example, our sponsor Vikas Wadhwa resorts to the phrase “New York style loft.”

The current owners bought raw space and customized it with high-end fittings, finishes and appliances. The unit just came on the market, listed with the Modern Chicago Homes division of Urban Living Properties for $799,000. It had previously been on the market for $839,000.

Since a loft is primarily a visual experience, I’ll spare you further verbiage and point you to the photo gallery for the unit.
