A South Loop new construction update

We visited three South Loop new construction sites on Saturday to check on their progress.

The elevator core at 1345 Wabash is topped out and the building’s top floor should be complete within a week. Window installation has begun on the lower floors.

The 16-story, 144-unit new condominium development, the first in the South Loop in half a dozen years, is targeting first occupancies early next year.

The 469-0unit, 29-story apartment tower at 1000 S Clark has risen above ground and is poised to begin climbing at a pace of a floor every few days. First occupancies are being targeted for late in 2015. JDL Development is touting the project as raising “the bar of refined living in Chicago with unparalleled amenities and service.” The project’s large site certainly enables JDL to think big.

There were no indications of progress on the 35-story, 392-unit apartment tower that Golub & Co is planning at 901 S State St.

A building permit has been issued for the foundation with an address at 1001 S State. It’s common for buildings to have different addresses for marketing and permit processes – a fact that conveniently makes it more difficult for the curious to discover permit violations.
