A visit to Chicago’s West Side with a real estate appraiser

by Joe Zekas on 4/25/14

Citywide Services’ Michael Walsh is a veteran appraiser whose work takes him to many areas of Chicagoland.

I joined Michael for a mid-morning visit to Humboldt Park and North Austin on the city’s West Side for a look at two foreclosed properties. Along the way we chatted about the appraisal process and some of the conditions that affect a property’s value.

Walsh is often requested to appraise properties in estate, bankruptcy, tax and divorce situations. It’s been many years since I’d ordered an appraisal and I was surprised to learn that the cost of a typical single-family or condo appraisal is only $295.
