Abbott Laboratories, a major employer in Lake County, announced plans to lay off 1,900 workers, about 1,000 of them in Illinois, primarily in Lake County.
That’s a serious blow to the housing market in North Chicago, Lake Bluff and neighboring communities. North Chicago, in particular, was already reeling badly, with a median list price of $90,000 and a median sale price of $45,000 last month.
Abbott recently announced double-digit sales and earnings growth for the 4th quarter of last year.
