The CHA's raisin in the sun

Daley’s CHA dream deferred is the headline on a Crain’s Chicago Business update on the status of the Chicago Housing Authority’s Plan for Transformation. The Crain’s headline harks to Langston Hughes’ biting questions on the fate of a dream deferred.

The 245-unit second phase of Roosevelt Square, on the site of the former ABLA Homes, will be broken into smaller phases and start construction later this year, according to the CHA’s executive director, reports Crain’s. I was told several days ago, by someone in a position to know, that this is unlikely to happen.

Watch architect Pat FitzGerald, who is involed in four of the CHA projects, talk about the CHA’s “Daring experiment” in an earlier interview with me.
