An award-winning restoration of the Emery House in Elmhurst

The Emery House in Elmhurst, 281 S Arlington, was designed by Walter Burley Griffin for his friend and high school classmate, William H. Emery Jr.

At the time the home was built in 1903 Griffin worked for Frank Lloyd Wright, and Wright’s influence is evident throughout this Prairie Style home. Griffin went on, of course, to international fame for his role in designing Canberra, the capital of Australia.

The complete restoration of the home by its current owners won a Richard H. Driehaus Foundation Preservation Award. The home is currently listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
