Another apartment tower moves forward in River North

Yesterday’s email newsletter from Alderman Brendan Reilly provided a progress report on a new 25-story development at 220 W Illinois St that will contain 188 apartments, 176 parking spaces and ground floor retail space. The developer intends to break ground next year and begin delivering units in April of 2014.

The new building, designed by Hartshorne Plunkard Architecture, is adjacent to the former Engine Company 42 building, a Chicago landmark that was built in 1887.

You can read some of the history of the River North site at Crain’s Chicago Real Estate Daily and at the Chicago Architecture Blog.
