BlockWalks: the 4400 block of North Albany Street in Albany Park

Loran McDonald was the first New Trier kid I met upon arriving at the University of Missouri more than a decade ago. During our four years at Mizzou, Lo and I worked together as DJs at the college radio station KCOU; we shared an apartment near campus for two of those years.

Lo grew up in Wilmette and returned to Chicagoland following college. In late 2008, he bought his first home, a two-bedroom condo at the corner of Sunnyside Avenue and Albany Street in Albany Park. On Saturday we took a walk up and down the 4400 block of North Albany Street to talk about his home search and the things that drew him to the neighborhood. In this video, he touches on home styles and sales prices on his street, the restaurants and stores on nearby Montrose, Kedzie, and Lawrence avenues, the area’s transportation options, and the rookie mistakes he made during the home-buying process.
