Building new homes in South Chicago

by Joseph Askins on 8/8/09

Down in South Chicago, Claretian Associates is filling in empty lots with new three-bedroom single-family homes. Although the homes have a base price in the $190s, buyers can qualify for as much as $60,000 in grants and credits, thereby bringing the purchase prices down as low as the $130s.

On Friday I toured South Chicago with Claretian’s executive director, Angela Hurlock. Here, she talks about the organization’s history as we look at a variety of homes it has built in the neighborhood.
