Charting a year's worth of sales in 288 Chicago neighborhoods and suburbs

Chicago Magazine has posted sortable charts of transactions, average sale prices, days on market, and more for Chicago’s 77 community areas and 211 suburbs, as well as an accompanying feature by Dennis Rodkin about market conditions area-wide. The data, collected from Midwest Real Estate Data, covers the period from July 1, 2009 to June 30, 2010.

In the condo market, the top five neighborhoods by total transactions were the Near North Side, Lake View, West Town, the Near West Side, and Lincoln Park. By average sale price, they were the Loop, the Near North Side, Lincoln Park, the Near North Side, and North Center.

For detached homes, the top five neighborhoods by total transactions were Ashburn, Dunning, Belmont Cragin, Chicago Lawn, and Austin. By average sale price, they were the Near North Side, Lincoln Park, Lake View, the Near South Side, and North Center.

In the suburbs, Aurora, Naperville, Plainfield, Joliet, and Elgin experienced the most transactions. The highest average sale prices were in Kenilworth, Winnetka, Barrington Hills, Oak Brook, and Glencoe.
