The Chicago Plan Commission yesterday approved construction of a new 33-story, 290-unit apartment tower with ground-floor retail space at the northeast corner of Chicago and LaSalle. Smithfield Properties is the developer.
The next step for the project is approval by the full City Council.

Continuing the success of Sono East, Smithfield Properties and Berkelhamer Architects are proud to announce their latest Tower.
Comprised of 10 units per floor, the 350’ tall the building is designed with a stepped façade creating a slender profile with a modernist glass/steel expression.
Targeting young professionals, 295 rental units will be an equal mix of one bedroom and studio apartments. Located at the Northeast corner of Chicago Avenue and LaSalle Streets, this development will have unprecedented access to all venues of public transportation.
Five distinctive two level terrace homes with private outdoor yards and double story living spaces, will sit above the parking garage. A roof top pool with enhanced skyline views will complete the top of the tower.
A courtyard, replete with recessed garden, will create the privatized residential entrance from LaSalle Street. 4,000 sf of retail will face Chicago Avenue.
This project represents yet another in a series of highly successful collaborations between Berkelhamer and the architects of record, the highly regarded Chicago firm of Antunovich Associates.
