Chicago auction action: hammer time at Park Village Condos

parkvillage.JPG

March 6 is hammer time at the Park Village Condominiums, a 63-unit development at 2451 W Howard St, just south of the Evanston border. Thirty-two of the units will be up for grabs, with a suggested opening bid of $150,000. Sales agent Nachman Berger, of Century 21 Sussex and Reilly, tells us that the condos were originally priced from the $190s to the $390s. The auction, by Rick Levin & Associates, will take place at the Holiday Inn in Skokie, of all places.

The units have one, two or three bedrooms and one or two baths, and come with hardwood floors, granite countertops and maple cabinets.

The concrete and brick building is a former hospital that was built in the early 1900s and modified in the 1960s, according to Berger. The condo developer replaced the brickwork and installed new mechanicals. Building amenities include an exercise room and a storage room. Photo by Joel Hoglund.
A spokesperson for the developer, Western Howard Corporation, wasn’t available for comment, but Berger said the company was auctioning the remaining units because the market was slow. You may recall that Levin recently told us that he’s seen a spike in auctions due to the slowing condo market.
