Lower West Side is Community Area 31 of 77 on the city's official roster. The name is little used today, and the neighborhood is better known by its sub-areas: East Pilsen, Pilsen, Heart of Chicago and Heart of Italy.

The boundaries of Lower West Side are the Stevenson Expy and Chicago River north to 16th St, the Chicago River to the RR tracks west of Western Ave (2400 W).
