How low can you go? Chicago homes for under $100,000

5555 N Sheridan 3.jpgHow can anyone afford to buy in the city? It’s a question we hear a lot, and today, Yo supplies a few answers, mostly to the far north and far south — the lands of deals. The Lakefront Group lists a $99,900 studio of 1,100 square feet at the famously pink Edgewater Beach Apartments. Just up the street, at 6030 N Sheridan Rd, a studio clocks in at $98,500.

5000 S East End 1.jpg On the other side of the city, Urban Search Realty lists a two-bedroom two-bath pad at 5000 S East End Ave (pictured), which was the tallest building on the South Side before South Shore Beach Apartments came along. Finally — bargain hunters get ready — this studio at 4914 S Drexel Blvd comes in at the bargain price of $39,900. No, that’s not a typo. We haven’t actually been in the unit, so we don’t know if there’s a catch, but we did check it out, and you can buy the joint for less than 40k.
