Chicago taxis take on New York look

How about those glowy, triangular advertising doo-dahs that have been popping up on top of Chicago taxi cabs lately–the kind that New York City cabs sport? I actually like them. I just hope Chicago cabs don’t adopt the New York phenomenon of having celebrities (such as Jackie Mason and Carol Channing) record messages telling cab riders to watch their bags, and be careful of traffic when exiting the taxi.

For one, any recorded message is a little off-putting, a little lazy, a little sub-human. For two, who the hell wants to listen to some over-the-hill show biz types spouting off about traffic? Triangle lights–good, messages–bad. Let’s stop it right there.

No–there is one more cue we could take from the Big Apple; let’s make all the cabs yellow.
