Chicago skyline, viewed from Optima Old Orchard in Skokie

It’s about 14 miles by road from Optima Old Orchard Woods in Skokie to the Chicago skyline. The skies were clear during Joe Zekas’ visit yesterday, but the shot was taken through a window, muddying it a bit. Click the image to see a larger version of this unique skyline view.

Updated: Here’s Michael Kardas’ take from almost the same angle:

Is Chicago’s skyline really that dense or has this photo been….enhanced?

Joe Zekas 6/5/09 at 11:30 AM

tup,

It is that dense. Check back over the weekend and I’ll post a much better shot of the skyline by Michael Kardas who was with me at Old Orchard Woods.

Yeah, seriously. That is a really nice photo.

People living in that building who have those views are definitely hooked up (plus they get to live next to the forest preserve)

Joe Zekas 6/5/09 at 2:37 PM

We’ll have some forest preserve views up later. The forest seems to stretch out to the horizon when viewed from the top floor at Optima.

All in all there are shockingly good views considering this is a suburban project.

If only my new job were within a close enough drive to some of these immediate north burbs of Chicago. Alas, it’s north o’ the border for me

nice pictures! these are right along the edens right, is there much noise?

Joe Zekas 6/5/09 at 7:34 PM

CH,

It’s right along the Edens.

If you’re inside with the windows closed you hear no trace of the X-way. If you have windows open or are on your balcony and on the east side of the building you definitely hear the Edens. You also hear it on the west side with open windows or on the outside, but less so.

How about some info about the Crossings at Morton Grove, about a mile or so south. Any thoughts on life in Morton Grove around the Metra stop?

Yes, actually that is what Chicago’s skyline looks like. Can’t say if the photog enhanced it, but That is how Chicago looks from Skokie.
