Choice cuts: McCormick Row House priced below $1M

836 W Belden Ave, ChicagoIt’s rare to see one of DePaul’s vintage McCormick Row Houses for sale, especially at a price in the six figures. The five-bedroom / 3.5-bath home at 836 W Belden Ave sold in 2005 for $1.32 million, and again in 2007 for $1.4 million. It’s been on and off the market since May, and is now available for $979,000, which is just slightly higher than its sale price from 11 years ago.

The four-story home features southern exposures, a “double wood entrance vestibule,” a three-level staircase “sure to impress,” three fireplaces with soapstone mantels, original pocket doors and shutters, and its original hardwood floors. 2009 taxes are $14,755, and monthly assessments are just $110, covering parking, common insurance, exterior maintenance, lawn care, scavenger, and snow removal. Realtor Sam Tarara of Koenig & Strey has the listing.

In 2007 Joe Zekas circled through the McCormick Row House District with his camera, and offered a few comments on its history, including the wheeling and dealing involved in the sale of the homes by the McCormick Theological Seminary. That video is below:
