Condo sales, prices surge in West Town

West Town is one of Chicago’s 77 official Community Areas, but it’s not a neighborhood name that many will recognize.

West Town encompasses a number of more familiar sub-neighborhoods: parts of Bucktown and Humboldt Park, and all of Wicker Park, Ukrainian Village, East Village and River West.

The local Multiple Listing Service enables real estate agents to summarize sales and other data by Community Area, and Kale Realty’s Eric Rojas has just posted a report on West Town activity from January 1 to September 20, 2013.

Three-bedroom and larger condo sales volume and prices both surged during the reporting period. Sales increased by 32% over the corresponding period last year to 395 units, and the median price increased by $50,000 to $448,000. More details are available at Rojas’ Chicago Real Estate Local blog.

Eighteen of those units were sold pre-construction in the Noah Properties’ development in Ukrainian Village featured in the above video.
