Conlon unveils River West apartment plan

1100 West Grand, 1100 W Grand Ave, Chicago

Earlier this month we learned about F&F Realty’s plans for a new 514-unit apartment building in the West Loop. Today, Crain’s passes along news of Sean Conlon’s new construction plans for River West. One more announcement and we might call this a trend…

According to the article, Conlon plans to build a seven-story apartment building at 1100 W Grand Ave, just west of Ohio Street’s wide-arcing southbound ramp onto the Kennedy Expressway. There’s no word on how many apartments will be inside the Axios Architects & Consultants-designed mid-rise (seen above in a rendering accompanying the Crain’s article), but the units will also be able to serve as condominiums should the market rebound before the building’s completion. Conlon does not expect to break ground for at least a year.

Conlon’s Irish-backed vulture fund bought the property in 2008 for $1.9 million, the story says.

1.9m? and they can build 514 apts? that is a hell of a deal. can you verify this?

Re-read the first sentence, Alan. The 514 units are at F&F’s development, not Conlon’s.
