Construction update – Hubbard Place in River North

Nearly seven months after its official February groundbreaking, which took place approximately two months after work began at the site, Hubbard Place was eight stories out of the ground, an unusually slow pace for a new high-rise.

The Habitat Company‘s 43-story, 450-unit apartment tower at 360 W Hubbard in River North is slated for occupancy in September of 2013. Work was underway on the 15th floor when I took the above shot on Wednesday. If you click through to a larger version of the image you can see people sunning and swimming laps on the roof of the East Bank Club – highly unusual for October 24.

Added: I received the following info from Habitat.

Regarding the pace, we are one of the only buildings currently being built with 1 ½ levels of almost full site underground parking which delays the start of above ground work by 3 months. All of the underground retaining wall system and excavation and extensive foundation work takes quite a bit of time; however, we are currently ahead of schedule having poured the 16th floor on Friday.
