Controversy over condo project and parking lot on Devon Avenue

Residents of West Rogers Park seem to be divided over the merits of a planned mixed-use development at Devon Avenue and Rockwell Street. Developer Tarid Siddiqui’s five-story building will have 24 condos, 200 public parking spaces and ground floor retail (we promise a rendering when we get our hands on one).

Some residents feel that the development will be too big and out of proportion with the Devon Avenue streetscape. They also question why the project is being funded with TIF dollars, arguing that TIF money should be spent on public infrastructure that stimulates private investment, rather than given directly to a developer. Others say the development is useful because lively Devon Avenue has a chronic shortage of parking. The site is currently a single-level parking lot.

The three-bedroom units are priced from the $270s to the $320s.
