Crain’s: City mulls TIF for South Works site

Market Common, South ChicagoThe city’s Community Development Commission this afternoon is considering a tax increment financing district for the first phase of the 530-acre South Works steel mill site in South Chicago, according to Crain’s.

US Steel and McCaffery Interests’s “Market Common” plan (rendering at right) calls for more than 17,000 homes, 1 million square feet of retail space, and a marina on the entire site.
