Des Plaines? You couldn't pay me to live there. Literally.

The Chicago Tribune reports that the Des Plaines City Council will reconsider a rule requiring department heads to live in the northern suburb. Apparently, the community has had trouble attracting top job candidates, who are scared off by the idea of having to move to Des Plaines. Some cite the rising cost of housing as part of the problem. The median single-family home in Des Plaines was $329,000 in 2005, up 43 percent from the median price of $230,000 in 2001, when residents voted to impose the residency rule. (stats compiled by the North Shore-Barrington Association of Realtors).
