Dewes Mansion finally gets its listing

by Joseph Askins on 3/31/11

In November we learned that the Francis J. Dewes Mansion at 503 W Wrightwood Ave in Lincoln Park was available for $9.9 million. Yesterday, the home finally arrived on the MLS, where it now represents the second highest price among all Chicago listings — only William Wrigley Jr’s 12,120 square feet of raw penthouse space at 65 E Goethe St costs more.

The mansion was one of the most lavishly detailed and decorated homes in Chicago when it was built in the 1890s. It’s a Chicago landmark, and listed on the National Register of Historic Places. In November, Joe Zekas visited the home with its listing agent, Mary Bennett of Koenig & Strey — above is the first segment from the tour.

The second and third parts of the tour are at YouTube.

It’s beautiful. You’d have to have the money to purchase and upkeep it *and* like to live in a victorian style home/historic landmark-museum….
It is remarkable and gorgeous.
