AMLI Evanston is a new 6-story, mixed-use development built in 2013 at 737 Chicago Ave in Evanston. AMLI Evanston has 214 apartments and street-level retail and live-work spaces.
AMLI Evanston has received LEED Silver certification from the US Green Building Council.
AMLI Evanston has a mix of 1-, 2- and 3-bedroom apartments. Floor plans are available online. In mid-December 2014 rents started at $1,742 for 1-bedrooms, $2,330 for 2-bedroom, 1-baths, $2,440 for 2-bedroom, 2-baths and $3,395 for 3-bedrooms with 2 baths.
The apartments have wood-look floors in living areas, and kitchens with stainless steel appliances, granite counter tops, 42-inch cabinets and tile backsplashes.
Baths have nice-sized vanities and some have separate tubs and showers. A number of the floor plans have bonus features that include built-in tech spaces and extra storage. Some of the units have private outdoor terraces.
All of the apartments have in-unit washer / dryers. Closet space is very good in most of the layouts.
Amenities, services, policies
AMLI Evanston has extensive common-area amenities but does not have a pool.
There’s a resident lounge with a kitchen, bar area and fireplace, and a “cyber spot” with copier, fax and scanner.
The building has a fitness center with separate cardio and strength training rooms and a private yoga / Pilates studio.
The rooftop terrace has a fire pit, trellis areas, lounge seating and grilling stations.
There are bicycle storage areas, electric car-charging stations and resident storage areas.
AMLI Evanston is pet-friendly and smoke-free. Garage parking is available on-site. The building has on-site management, maintenance and leasing staff.
AMLI Evanston is in the southern part of Evanston, a block south of the commercial strip along Main St. The building has decent proximity to restaurants, coffee shops and public transportation.
Shopping. AMLI Evanston has reasonably good proximity to grocery shopping.
There’s a new Walgreens on Chicago Ave, just south of AMLI Evanston.
The upscale Westfield Old Orchard shopping center, anchored by Macy’s, Bloomingdales and Nordstrom, is accessible by a bus route that stops in front of the building.
Dining, nightlife, entertainment. Residents of AMLI Evanston have a variety of dining and drinking options nearby.
The Firehouse Grill, a few doors north on Chicago Ave, is the neighborhood go-to spot for burgers and a lot more.
Lucky Platter, a block north on Main St, draws a crowd for comfort food and a great weekend brunch. Siam Paragon, a local favorite for dine-in and takeout Thai food, and Lupita’s, a margarita mecca, are also nearby on Main St.
Piccolo Theatre seats 50 for comedy plays at a space in the Main Street Metra Station.
Parks, recreation. The location lacks convenient access to public parks and outdoor recreation areas.
Evanston’s public beaches are over half a mile from the building. The nearest public park, Clark Square Park, is a passive green space.
Transportation. Residents of AMLI Evanston have good access to public transportation.
All of Evanston has relatively inconvenient access to Chicago’s airports and to I-90/94 and the expressway grid.
There’s an Enterprise CarShare location around the corner from the building on HInman. The nearest Zipcar car-sharing location is several blocks from the building on Main St. Taxi service can be readily summoned to the building
Rentals are typically available in a number of nearby condo buildings, sometimes at lower rents than in the managed apartment buildings.
