Evanston Place is a 190-unit contemporary apartment complex at 1715 – 1735 Chicago Ave in Evanston. Evanston Place consists of two 9-story buildings connected by an 800-car 6-level parking garage.

Evanston Place was designed by John Macsai & Associates. When it opened in 1990, it was the first large apartment complex completed in downtown Evanston in more than 20 years.

The apartments

Evanston Place has a mix of studio, 1-, 2- and 3-bedroom apartments. Floor plans and near real-time availability info can be accessed online. In late-December 2014 rents started at $1,599 for studios, $1,539 for 1-bedrooms, $2,669 for 2-bedroom, 2-baths and $3,445 for 3-bedroom, 2 ½ baths.

There are more than a dozen different floor plans. Updated apartments have plank flooring in living areas. Closet space is typically ample.

Kitchens are all-electric and have dishwashers, microwaves and ample cabinet and counter space.

Sixth-floor apartments have direct access to a patio. A number of other units have sheltered balconies.

Amenities, services, policies

Evanston Place has a full suite of amenities that is currently undergoing a makeover, with completion targeted for summer of 2015.

The building has a pool and sundeck with gas grills above the garage. A new fitness center has cardio and strength-training equipment with personal TVs.

Complimentary coffee and tea are available in the building’s party room. The building is opening a “tech lounge” with a flat-screen TV, free Wi-Fi and printers

There’s a card-operated laundry room on each floor of the building.

Garage parking is available on-site. Pets are welcome, subject to limits.

Evanston Place has on-site management, leasing and maintenance staff.

The location

Evanston Place is in an attractive location at the edge of downtown, close to shopping, bars, restaurants, coffee shops, public transportation and Lake Michigan parks.

Evanston Place is a block from the Northwestern University campus. It’s the closest to campus and to the lakefront of all of the major Evanston apartment complexes.

Shopping. Evanston Place has excellent proximity to retail shops in downtown Evanston.

Whole Foods is on the block immediately south of Evanston Place .

Sea Ranch Fish Market is five blocks south of Evanston Place and Jewel-Osco and Trader Joe’s are a block further.


Downtown Evanston offers an eclectic mix of locally-owned boutiques and name-brand national retailers.

Residents of Evanston Place who are setting up their first apartment will find much of what they need at Lemoi Ace Hardware and Affordable Portables, a few blocks from the building.

The upscale Westfield Old Orchard shopping center, anchored by Macy’s, Bloomingdales and Nordstrom, is accessible by a bus route that stops near the building.

Dining, nightlife, entertainment. There are dozens of restaurants and bars within a few blocks of Evanston Place.


If highly-caffeinated is your preferred state of being, you won’t have to go far to maintain it. Peet’s and Kafein are within a block of the building, and Other Brothers and Starbucks are nearby.


There’s an abundance and variety of restaurants near Evanston Place, including Addis Abeba, Giordano’s, Edzo’s, Trattoria Demi and Tapas Barcelona, to name just a few.

Wine aficionados look forward to the twice-weekly tastings at Vinic Wine, two blocks south of Evanston Place.


Downtown Evanston is a pedestrian-friendly environment and a number of restaurants have outdoor seating areas.


As you’d expect in a college town, national brands have a strong presence, but there are enough one-of-a-kind restaurants near Evanston Place to satisfy almost every palate. And there are scores more a bit further afield in Evanston’s quirky neighborhoods.


You won’t find much of a club scene in Evanston, but you will find drinking establishments ranging from Bar Louie to Tommy Nevin’s within a few blocks of Evanston Place.

The Century 12 Cinemark movie theater is a few blocks from Evanston Place. Evanston has a respectable live theatre scene.

A number of Evanston’s street festivals and outdoor concerts take place near Evanston Place.

Parks, recreation. The location is convenient to public parks and outdoor recreation areas.

Evanston’s public beaches are two blocks east of the building.

Transportation. Residents of Evanston Place have good access to public transportation.


The CTA Purple Line stop at Davis St is a six-minute walk from the building and Metra’s North Line is just past the CTA stop.

Several Northwestern shuttles stop near Evanston Place. The #201 and #205 CTA bus routes stop near the building.

All of Evanston has relatively inconvenient access to Chicago’s airports and to I-90/94 and the expressway grid.

Both Enterprise and Zipcar have a car sharing location several blocks from the building. Taxi service can be readily summoned to the building

The competition

Rentals are typically available in a number of nearby condo buildings, sometimes at lower rents than in the managed apartment buildings.
