Fountain View earns its LEED certification

Fountain View, 2326 W Giddings St, Lincoln Square, Chicago

Back in September I reviewed the US Green Building Council‘s list of LEED projects and found that most of the residential developments that touted their LEED pursuits in recent years were never certified.

This afternoon, I checked back and found that one of the stragglers, Fountain View at 2326 W Giddings Ave in Lincoln Square, has since received LEED Basic certification. According to the development’s website, Fountain View’s green features include “enhanced” insulation, sealed joints, argon-filled double-pane windows and doors, a green roof, high-efficiency HVAC systems, Energy Star rated appliances, bamboo floors, and countertops and tiles made of recycled materials.

The last two available units in the 18-unit building closed in late October, according to Redfin.

A new report from Calvert Investments finds that the nation’s biggest builders (companies much larger than Fountain View developer Terra Firma) “has significantly more progress to make” in building “greener and cleaner homes,” says the Wall Street Journal. According to the WSJ, “companies pay more attention to sustainability issues that offer near-term financial benefits to operating costs and customers, such as building material recycling,” but don’t address longer-term issues like the home’s impact on climate change.
