From the rumor mill: How slow was 2009?

by Joseph Askins on 12/15/09

Here’s an appropriately chilling stat for you on this cold December afternoon. A little bird tells us that at one of the city’s brokerages, a whopping 40 percent of agents have yet to make a sale in 2009. There are 16 days left in the year, guys and gals — you can do it!

Sure. They can make the sale if they cut it down to prices where the unemployed can afford a home like zero dollars. I admit I do not know economics getting a job even at a mcdonald’s right now is certainly frustrating. It will take years for the markets to stabilize at 2005 levels. Just look at the calculated risk blog if you don’t believe me. Well, I am off to school and saving so I can get my 340 on the park condo one day. Though that may mean retirement age in about 30 years :(

Joseph,

You got me hook, line sinker.. I’m biting on this one. Which brokerage was this little birdie speaking of?

Paul,

Sorry. The birdies stop singing if you identify them. You can run the data on the MLS if you really need to know.

Based on what I could gather from BrokerMetrics – the top 10 brokers had about 60-80% producing agents….except Sudler Sothebys – only 49% in 2009. Data is below via BrokerMetrics for 2009. The 3 figures for each broker represent Total MLS IDs / Producing Agents / (Result of dividing those 2 numbers)

#Name Prod Agents % Producing
1 Coldwell Banker Residential Br 3137 / 2067 / 66%
2 Baird & Warner Residential Sal 1545 / 1095 / 71%
3 @properties 797 / 524 / 66%
4 Koenig & Strey GMAC Real Estat 915 / 552 / 60%
5 Prudential Rubloff 711 / 433 / 61%
6 RE/MAX Suburban 230 / 181 / 79%
7 Coldwell Banker Honig-Bell 556 / 396 / 71%
8 NONMEM – Not supplied by the MLS 2 / 2 / 100%
9 RE/MAX Of Naperville 158 / 124 / 78%
10 Sudler 251 / 123 / 49%
