From the vault – Sweet Home Chicago, Fall 1988

YoChicago started in business in 1987 as a weekly real estate newspaper called the Real Estate Profile and, later, Apartments & Homes.

Among other activities we ran five home shows, most recently at Navy Pier in 1989, where we drew a crowd of nearly 20,000 over a 3-day period.

Join us for a nostalgic look at our Fall 1988 Sweet Home Chicago show. The show drew more than 7,000 visitors to North Pier to meet more than 100 exhibitors ranging from real estate brokers to home lenders to architectural hardware vendors to developers and more. In 1988 River East was positioned as an indoor shopping mall. It’s currently in the process of converting to loft apartments.

Our sponsors included Chicago Brass, Citicorp Savings, MCL Development, Jameson Real Estate, Chicago Title & Trust and Chicago Magazine.

The show’s venue, North Pier, was positioned as an indoor shopping mall. It became known as River East, was reconceived several times, and is currently being converted to loft apartments.

We were a proponent of real estate video more than 25 years ago, and our commitment to it has only grown, with more than 2,600 videos available on our primary YouTube channel.
