From Yo’s archives – severed heads and the Chicago Spire

Five years ago today Yo was looking forward to an evening presentation by Garrett Kelleher on the latest iteration of his plans for the Chicago Spire.

Six months later we shot video of Spire architect and bag-holder Santiago Calatrava outlining his vision, which included the use of severed human heads as incredibly creepy door handles.

You can see more of Calatrava’s presentation in our YouTube playlist. Our cameraman unwittingly set a low-light switch that accounts for the greenish overcast in the video.

Calatrava’s holistic vision for the Spire has, of course, become hole-istic, a fate predicted by developer Dan McLean, who once owned the Spire site.
