Gateway West Loop is a 17-story, 167-unit apartment tower at 11 S Green St in Chicago’s West Loop.

Gateway includes 95 parking spaces and 5,000 square feet of ground-level retail space. Gateway West Loop welcomed its first residents in July of 2015.

Lennar Multifamily was the project’s developer. Antunovich Associates was the architecture firm and Walsh Construction was the general contractor.

The apartments

Gateway West Loop has 36 studios, 83 one-bedrooms and 46 two-bedroom apartments. Floor plans and near real-time availability are accessible online. Some of the one-bedroom floor plans include a den.

The apartments have a loft aesthetic with exposed concrete columns and ceilings, plank flooring, floor-to-ceiling windows and open-plan kitchens.

Most of the apartments have private balconies.

Kitchens have quartz countertops, stainless steel appliances including side-by-side refrigerators with filtered water and ice-makers, built-in microwaves, under-mount sinks and glass tile backsplashes. Some of the units have kitchen islands.

The apartments have in-unit washer / dryers and walk-in closets

Short-term furnished rentals are available from Suite Home Chicago.

Views. Gateway’s east-facing units have good skyline views. West-facing units, given the height of neighboring developments, will have unobstructed views of the cityscape and great sunset views.

Amenities, services, policies

Gateway is a full-amenity building.

There’s a south-facing rooftop sundeck with a pool, a fire-pit, a grilling area and skyline and sunset views.

The rooftop resident lounge is adjacent to the pool deck and has a kitchen, fireplace and multiple seating areas for small gatherings. Gateway has a complimentary coffee center with Starbucks coffee.

The fitness studio features Precor cardio and strength-training equipment. There is a separate fitness room with on-demand fitness classes.

Gateway’s lobby includes an additional resident lounge with fireplace and sitting areas.

The building has on-site leasing and management staff, 24/7 front desk and concierge service, and valet dry cleaning service by Pressbox.

Gateway has on-site covered parking and bike storage. The building is pet-friendly, subject to limits, and smoke-free.

The location

Gateway is located in a pedestrian-friendly, pleasant environment with a neighborhood feel. It has great access to shopping, dining and nightlife, and good access to Loop offices, the Illinois Medical District hospitals and the University of Illinois at Chicago campus.

Shopping. Residents at Gateway have excellent grocery shopping options.

Gateway is adjacent to the recently-opened Mariano’s, which has been generating a lot of positive buzz and drawing crowds to a large selection of prepared foods and craft beers.

Whole Foods opened in mid-April 2015 at 1 N Halsted, just around the corner from Gateway.

A Walmart Neighborhood Market is a few short blocks east and Jewel-Osco is a half-mile north.

There’s a Target half a dozen blocks southwest of the building.

Dining, nightlife. The West Loop is an almost indescribably-rich dining and nightlife venue, and Gateway has great proximity to the best of it.

Randolph Street’s restaurant row, a Chicagoland destination dining spot with dozens of foodie venues, is two short blocks north of Gateway.

Head in any direction from Gateway and you may be overwhelmed by the number and variety of local restaurants.

Greektown, just around the corner from Gateway, is largely a tourist draw, but some of the restaurants are definitely worth a visit.

Parks, recreation. The location has limited proximity to public parks and recreational opportunities.

Mary Bartelme Park, a block southwest, is a neighborhood favorite for kids and dogs. The park comes up short on active recreational space.

Transportation. Public transportation access is not as convenient as in other West Loop locations. The building is about a 10-minute walk from the new CTA Pink and Green Line stop at Morgan and the CTA Blue Line stop at Halsted.

A CTA bus route on Madison St, just outside the building, travels east into the Loop and west to the United Center. The Halsted St bus, a short block east, connects to the UIC campus and to the Blue Line for transit to O’Hare Airport.

Gateway has excellent access to the city’s expressway grid. Taxi service is readily available along Halsted and Madison. Zipcar car-sharing locations are nearby. A DIVVY bike station on Madison St is steps away from the building.
