Halsted Flats touting Fall 2013 occupancy in Lake View

We’ve focused almost all of our coverage of new apartment construction in Chicago’s downtown area, where well over 10,000 units have been recently completed, are underway or on the drawing boards.

A decent number of large apartment projects have been proposed or begun construction in neighborhoods beyond downtown, and we’ve linked frequently, on our Chicago Real Estate News page, to the coverage those projects have received on other websites.

Yesterday we stopped by one of the more high-profile developments, Halsted Flats at 3740 N Halsted in Lake View. The 15-story mixed-use development will include 269 rental apartments, 10,900 square feet of ground-level retail space, parking for 276 cars, and a pool, fitness center and other common-area amenities.

It’s been more than 25 years since a full-amenity rental high-rise has opened in Lake View and that building – the New York – was converted to condos more than a decade ago.

According to Halsted Flats’ website, apartments will be available for occupancy in fall 2013.
