Has the state closed your building’s swimming pool?

The Illinois Department of Public Health (IDPH) requires that public swimming pools meet water quality and safety standards, including engineering design standards.

New rules effective October 1, 2011 required pools to comply with federal suction entrapment regulations. IDPH ordered the closing of a number of Chicago-area pools for failure to comply with those requirements, and publishes a periodically-updated list (PDF) of those pools.

Will you need to head to the beach this summer even if you live in a building with a pool?
