Highwood now a hotspot in shadow of Highland Park's upscale homes, downtown

With a thriving downtown, an active arts community, four Metra stops and a “Cuban-French bistro-bar-disco hotspot,” neighbors Highwood and Highland Park are moving from blue-collar to upscale, and the housing is following suit. In its latest issue, New Homes Magazine put the spotlight on the suburbs.

If the $2 million figure seems to be getting thrown around a lot in reference to Highland Park homes, it’s by no means a cap. Consider, for example, that over the summer, a 17-acre property on the lakefront listed for $22 million.

Um… when has Highland Park ever been “blue collar?”

Ever driven down Central Avenue? Or the stretches around the hospital, etc? Lots of modest homes that were, until recently, modestly priced.
