Introducing 1349 South Wabash Private Residences

Click for larger imageHere’s 1349 South Wabash Private Residences, which we told you about last week. Not quite a contender in our aforementioned battle for supremacy on the Chicago skyline.

Is that a terra cotta base I see before me? We don’t have details of the material, just the rendering, but doesn’t it look eerily similar to Azure Tower, except without Azure’s terra cotta architectural ram horns, as Joel likes to call them. The design looks as thought it is trying to be sympathetic to its next-door-neighbor, but it comes off as boxy-looking, with this clunky base. Sort of a reverse Pez dispenser-effect, in my book.

That said, it’s not the worst high-rise I’ve seen in this neck of the woods. (That honor is shared jointly by Michigan Avenue Tower, and the imaginatively-titled sequel, Michigan Avenue Tower II).
