Jackson Park and the 63rd Street Beach

by Mark Boyer on 7/23/09

Jackson Park is one of the city’s biggest parks, spanning the South Side neighborhoods of South Shore, Woodlawn and Hyde Park, and it’s one of the city’s most impressive public spaces. Yesterday, Joe and I got on the southbound lanes of Lake Shore Drive and made our way to the pier that extends from the 63rd Street Beach. The pier is one of the longest in the city, and from there you can take in some great views of the Hyde Park and downtown Chicago skylines.

This park could certainly rival Lincoln Park. It’s a nice park to take a drive in although I’ve made rare strolls around the park. I don’t have a car so I would consider Lincoln Park more of a strollin’ park than a park to drive around in. Both parks at least have a place of not like one could visit the Museum of Science and Industry while in Jackson Park just like one could visit Lincoln Park Zoo while there.
