Jackson Park's lagoons and Japanese garden

by Mark Boyer on 7/24/09

Jackson Park is largely defined by water. The park is bordered to the east by Lake Michigan, and it has two large lagoons and a harbor. In Part 1 of our Jackson Park video tour, we looked at the park from the lake, but once we entered the park we were again surrounded by water.

After returning from the pier at 63rd Street, Joe and I parked the car on the Midway Plaisance and walked into Jackson Park to have a look around. Entering the park at 59th Street, we paused for a few minutes on the bridge that passes over the lagoon to have a look at the south side of the Charles B. Atwood-designed Museum of Science & Industry. From there, we headed south and crossed another bridge onto a small island where the Japanese garden can be found.

Sounds like a romantic afternoon… an afternoon the envy of my wife and I.
